Many parents we talk to are suffering from a light version of PTSD related to taking their young kids out to eat at restaurants. Why? It’s a tale as old as time. Bored kids are prone to wreaking havoc. We get it. Unfortunately, it’s not only the parents who suffer through anxiety-riddled meals in public, but everyone else dining around them, too. So what do most families end up doing when a good mealtime goes bad? They hurry through the meal, skip dessert, and get out as fast as humanly possible.
Ultimately, restaurant operators feel the pain. They didn’t have a kids menu and activity placemat on hand and another family cut their meal short and likely won’t be back, which leads to small average bill values, less repeat traffic, and fewer word-of-mouth referrals to other family customers.
